Hello and welcome to True Words Christian Church in Shelbyville, KY. My name is Joshua Tapp.
I am the preacher at True Words Christian Church, and I am definitely not a perfect person. I’ve messed up too many times to tell you in my life, and I’m only here by the grace of God.
I should be dead, but I’m not! I definitely do not deserve anything that I have today. The Jesus Christ within the Bible saved me. If I can be saved, anyone can be saved.
God wants all people to be saved, and we’re only here to spread the ONE TRUTH within God’s word, the Bible.
Some Things You Should Know
I am not from a seminary. Thank God! I am an electrical engineer and a systems engineer. Yes, I have Master degrees in engineering, but I’ve studied the King James Bible more in my life than anything else. I don’t remember the last day that went by without studying the Bible.
I do not get paid from this Church. We do not use offering to pay anyone at this Church. This church has no debt. Electric City allows us to use the building and area at no cost. We are very thankful to them. We do not want your money, and we are not greedy.
I simply love the Bible with all that I have. And yes, I place it on a pedestal in my life far above anything else. I have been condemned by a pastor for placing the Bible on a pedestal. According to the Bible, that pastor should have been teaching me to place the Bible higher in my life.
Psalm 138:2 I will worship toward thy holy temple, and praise thy name for thy lovingkindness and for thy truth: for thou hast magnified thy word above all thy name.
God himself has magnified his word above his own name! So, God put his word on a pedestal, and I’ll do the same thing. And actually, we can’t magnify the word of God enough in our lives. I do not bow down and worship the Bible, but I do worship God and he tells us to study his words within the Bible.
God’s word is how you get to know the one true God. Without his word in this world, we would be lost.
We Are A New Church
This is a brand new Christian church, and we are very small (max attendance has been 14 but we’re working and God is working too). We know God’s job is to grow the church, but we’re sure going to do everything He asks us to do (door to door Gospel preaching).
When you come, you might ask: “Where are all the people?” We’ll get there. It takes time. Maybe you can step up and be a leader and help us build this church. Or, do you want to go somewhere easier? Hey, this isn’t easy. God didn’t say it would be easy.
1 Corinthians 1:26-29 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: 27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty; 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: 29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
We definitely are not mighty or noble, but we are called by God to do something so we’re doing it. I am weak. I am foolish. But I’m going to do what God asks me to do.
We decided to take a stand for God and get out of the false churches in this area who add works to salvation (the vast majority). We know that we’re saved (past tense) by the grace of God through faith. We know that we don’t deserve it. We know that we have everlasting life right now because God says so. We don’t listen to men. We listen to God.
1 John 5:10-13 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. 12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. 13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
We know that works of any type cannot save you because the Bible clearly says so from Genesis to Revelation, from Abel to Zechariah, from everlasting to everlasting.
We hope that you’ll come by and join us for a service as we’re trying to grow this church, and yes, it is very difficult in this area. Please stand up for God with us and help us grow this church. You’ll be one of the first here!
We don’t have all these church membership requirements, rules, laws, etc. We’re sick of that stuff too. God doesn’t give us all those requirements. His requirement for membership into heaven is “believe on the Lord Jesus Christ.” Our requirements aren’t more than God’s requirements.
Below, you’ll find out more information about our services.

Frequently Asked Questions
What’s a typical church service like?
You can call us an old-fashioned Church. We’ll follow the old paths where is the good way.
Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.
We are not entertainers. We don’t have smoke and lights. Our church area has chairs and a pulpit for preaching. We do have a TV! But we only use it for Bible verses and singing. It’s a rather boring area without flashing lights. You won’t think you’re at a rock concert when you come here.
You’ll really only want to come here if you want to worship God, and that’s why we made it this way. Church is to worship God alone, and it’s not to make us happy or you happy. We love to worship God here.
Here’s a typical service layout for us:
1. Fellowship before the service.
2. Prayer to start the service.
3. Reading of Scripture.
4. Singing of Psalms and Hymns.
5. Preaching from the King James Bible.
6. Prayer to close the service.
7. Fellowship after each service and answering questions.
We sing together as a congregation. We don’t do individual performances. We sing and worship as a church. Together. We do not split up into classes. We stay together at all times. That is church.
We’re available any time before or after the service if you have questions or need assistance with anything.
How long do your services last?
Our church services last from 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours.
For example:
Sunday Morning Service = 10:00 to 11:30 PM
Sunday Night Service = 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM
Wednesday Night Service = 7:00 PM to 8:30 PM
These are typical service times and we do sometimes go for 2 hours depending on the sermon length.
You get more teaching in less time at True Words when compared to churches that have Sunday School and other classes that lead to confusion. Research on Sunday School has shown that it’s very ineffective.
We don’t waste time. We get straight to the point in the sermons, and you’ll learn so much here. Give it a try, and you’ll see. If you don’t learn anything when you come, then you can call me a liar.
How long are your preaching sermons?
The average sermon length for each of the 3 services each week are approximately 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Some services include preaching on a topic from the Bible. Other services include verse by verse teaching through a chapter of the Bible.
For our sermons, please see this page where you can view, download, and learn: True Words Christian Sermons.
These aren’t short sermons that are over before you know it. We don’t waste time in the sermons. We don’t entertain. We just preach and teach the word of God.
We were deceived for most of our lives in false churches so we lost a lot of time to learn. We’re doing our best to make up for that lost time.
You will learn more in one sermon than you learn in most other churches for the entire year.
Don’t believe us? Come and try it out. You will learn here at True Words Christian Church (unless you sleep through the service, but I do throw things every once in a while – just kidding).
If you have a topic you want to hear in a sermon, just let us know and we’ll study that topic, preach it, and teach it. We’re always learning here together. I learn every time I study the Bible. No, I don’t know everything and I never will. But God does, and that’s why we study his words.
Do you observe the Lord’s Supper?
We observe the Lord’s Supper on the first Sunday evening of each month.
It is called “SUPPER” in the Bible so we observe it on Sunday evening once per month. It wasn’t called the Lord’s breakfast or the Lord’s lunch.
The purpose of the Lord’s Supper is to remember the sacrifice that Jesus Christ made for us.
All SAVED believers are welcome to join us in the Lord’s Supper. If you have ever put 100% of your faith on the Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, then you are welcome to participate.
We are a very small church at this time. If the church continues to grow to large numbers, we may move the Lord’s Supper to in-home smaller groups of people.
Note: It is your responsibility to ensure you are a SAVED believer before participating in the Lord’s Supper. You don’t want to end up like Judas Iscariot. You MUST be a believer to participate. If you’re not sure that you’re saved, DO NOT participate.
Do you have child care?
Yes, we have child care! You are the child care! If you have children, bring them with you. We love to have children in the services. They are a GREAT blessing and a joy from God, and we treat them like that. Children are amazing and learn so much faster than we do as adults. Yes, our 3-year old is beginning to understand the Gospel.
She says, “Daddy, I want to go to heaven. I believe on Jesus to save me.” And I say, “Well honey, that means you’re going to heaven because Jesus says he will save you.” And I didn’t push that on her. She listens at home when we read the Bible, and she listens at church. Now, I don’t believe she fully understands yet, but she’s getting there already. This is important for every child to grow up this way.
We don’t send children to other rooms with strangers. You might think you know someone, but you truly don’t.
We don’t take chances with our children, or with your children.
We are always together as an entire congregation in every service at this Church. We stick together as a group at all times. We don’t split families up for special events either. All ages and both genders are welcome at everything we do.
Yes, all children stay in the service with parents. It’s perfectly fine if they make noise. We have a room beside the pulpit where parents can take their children if needed. You will still be able to hear the preaching easily.
The job of any parent is to care for their children. We don’t pass them off to other people. Yes, our congregation will help during the service if needed. We’re here for each other, but the children need their parents the most. And the children need to hear the word of God being preached. Don’t send them off to play. Allow them to hear the word of God so they’ll be saved!
How do you contact us?
You can email me at josh@truewordschristian.org or you can text or call me at (502)396-1657.
I do work a normal job through the week (Monday through Friday) and my work hours are 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM. Yes, I normally work outside of those hours too when my co-workers need my support (on the weekends too). I do all I can to support them as needed. After my normal work hours, I am available any time.
Please let me know if you need help or have questions.
We Hope To See You Soon
If your church has never taught you how to make it to heaven properly, then you need to get out of there.
I know what the churches teach in this area because we go door to door soul winning and talk with people from other churches.
I ask people from other churches, “Has anyone ever taught how to make it to heaven?” Some have been in the same church for 60+ years, and they couldn’t tell me how to make it to heaven.
It’s time to stand up for God and get out of the false churches. Once Jesus has you in HIS HANDS, you aren’t slipping out. And all you have to do to be saved is BELIEVE ON THE LORD JESUS CHRIST!
Put all your trust in HIM ALONE, and he will save you. It is finished. Now, you can go do good works and now you understand those good works aren’t saving you because you’re already saved my friend.
Please, give us a chance here and join us for a service. If you don’t want to join us, please join another good church (make sure they use the King James Bible and believe in the inspired word of God and not only the original autographs as they don’t exist any more).
Thanks for reading, we hope to see you soon, and I hope you have a great day. Let me leave you with one truth that you need to know. Please see the words of Jesus Christ:
John 3:36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.
